LUBY’S, INC. BRINGS TWICE THE TASTE TO WEBSTER TODAY WITH THE GREATER HOUSTON AREA’S THIRD NEW BUILD, SIDE-BY-SIDE LUBY’S AND FUDDRUCKERS RESTAURANT LOCATION
HOUSTON, TX – August 14, 2014 – Just days from the second anniversary of it’s prototype new build, dual concept launch in Pearland, Houston-based Luby’s, Inc. welcomed its freshest side-by-side Luby’s cafeteria and Fuddruckers fast casual restaurant pairing today with simultaneous openings in Webster. The south side project is the company’s fifth in Texas and third in Greater Houston. Recent additions have included Dallas in June, Austin in March and Katy in January.
The venues, which are ideally situated at 20001 Gulf Freeway on the northbound access road between Bay Area Boulevard and W. Medical Center Blvd., occupy a free-standing, nearly 13,000-square-foot structure.
According to Peter Tropoli, Chief Operating Officer of Luby’s, Inc., “We are excited to mark the two-year milestone of our prototype side-by-side pairing with the launch of a dual concept site in one of the most in-demand retail areas of Greater Houston.”
Luby’s occupies the larger of the two spaces with seating for 220 guests in 9,900 square feet, while the 3,000-square-foot Fuddruckers can accommodate 92 diners. Fuddruckers presents a stylish take on the chain’s signature, roadhouse look. The design offers a casual sophistication that has broad appeal for families, couples and businesspeople.
The décor at Luby’s references both the Texas Hill Country and aspects of the Mid-Century modern movement, paying homage to the place and time of the brand’s 1940s era beginnings. Rich finishes include inviting accents of bronze and walnut, while a neutral background gives way to pops of vibrant color, including red, avocado and Mediterranean blue. Traditional, leather upholstered wood chairs are offset by contemporary fixtures and murals.
Our Corporate Executive Chef, Dan Phalen, recently attended the FARE Foodservice Conference in Dallas, Texas that took place June 16th-18th, 2014 where he was asked to judge the culinary competition that FARE puts on each year. There were four teams of two. Each team was given a market basket to work with, a basic set up of community staple items, and an Ovention oven that they had to use in some form of their preparation. The premise was to prepare a Grab and Go type item in one hour presented in a to go container provided to them. The winning team prepared a Torta Sandwich topped with crisp chicken chicharrons and grilled pineapple. Other entries included an open faced focaccia sandwich topped with a fried egg, pulled chicken flatbread pizza with sweet balsamic dipping sauce and a pulled pork focaccia sandwich with stuffed rice ball.
Chef Dan had a great time being part of the judging panel and looks forward to next year’s FARE Conference in Nashville!

The 3,490-squre-foot fast casual restaurant is located at Via Saronnese 12, approximately 20 miles northwest of Milan between Castellanza, home of the University of Economics Carlo Cattaneo, and Legnano, a city that traces its history back to medieval times and now boasts one of the area’s most popular parks.
